Matthew 12:26, NLT
And if Satan is casting out Satan, he is divided and fighting against himself. His own kingdom will not survive.

Satan has sent hatred and strife to the peoples of Libya. Pray for the Lord to overcome that curse with the healing touch of the gospel.

Tribalism in Libya

by MM, guest writer

How much trouble can a monkey cause? In Libya’s south several tribes have tensions that erupt into frequent violence. In one case a monkey belonging to a shopkeeper from one tribe supposedly attacked a school girl from another tribe. This humiliation led to fighting between the tribes that led to an estimated 20 deaths with 50 others wounded.
This would be comical if it weren’t so tragic. Yet it underlines a key component of the social fabric of Libya: its tribal nature. It is easy to think of Libya as basically Arab with a handful of smaller ethnic groups thrown in. However, it is actually a much more complex situation. Many of these groups, particularly the Arabs, have many tribes within them, and Gaddafi’s success in staying in power so long was based on his understanding and manipulation of the various tribes of Libya. The primary loyalty of most Libyans has less to do with the country and more to do with the family and tribe to which they belong. Positions are given, grudges are held, and decisions made because of one’s tribe. This diversity of tribes is critical in understanding how the gospel might spread in Libya.

Pray that those in the church would become the model of genuine brotherly love across tribes and people groups, and that there would be Libyan believers called to bring good news across tribal and family boundaries.
