Romans 1:17, NET
For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, “The righteous by faith will live.”

Pray that the Tajiks will find the freedom to live by faith rather than by their works.

Tajiks in Tajikistan

by PD

(This story is intended to illustrate customs of the Tajik people.)
“Uncle Aziz will you be competing in the buzkashi games (a polo like sport involving moving a goat carcass to a goal) during the new year celebration?” The 30-year old man took his niece in his lap, playfully made a muscle in front of her face, and replied, “Of course I’m going to play! I’m stronger than ever, and your Aunt Asiya knitted some beautiful red tassels for my horse. Besides this, they are giving away a TV this year. When you come to my house, there will be yummy pudding, dancing, singing and cartoons on the new TV which I will win at the games.”
Throughout its long history Tajikistan has been invaded many times by other people, including the Greeks. These invasions were often attributed to the passes through the Pamir Mountains that opened up essential trade routes that extended as far as China. Currently most Tajiks are herders or involved in small trade businesses.
Over 98 percent of them are Sunni Muslims. There were almost no believers among them when Tajikistan became independent in 1991, but now there are an estimated 2,600.

Pray for the Tajik believers to shine their lights for Jesus, and share his ways with their Muslim neighbors until there is a massive movement to Christ in Tajikistan.
