Pray for Kashmiri women to have eyes to see the Lord as He truly is.

Muslim Women in Kashmir

by LR

Despite the beauty of Kashmir’s scenery, the lives of its people are shrouded with insecurity and violence. None understand this better than Kashmiri women, who have suffered the main brunt of the conflict over the Muslim-majority Kashmiri region for decades.
Since India, Pakistan, and China all have claims in Kashmir, conflicting factions have abused Kashmir women as if they were weapons of war. “They have been raped, tortured, maimed, and killed. Kashmiri women are among the worst sufferers of sexual violence in the world,” reported Doctors Without Borders (aka, MSF).
The deterioration of the health care and education systems due to the war have further weakened women’s empowerment. Women are not even safe at home. Up to 2,000 complaints of domestic violence are recorded annually. Women who have more education and earn more money often face trouble at home from jealous and abusive husbands. Many women suffer from severe depression. According to one report, 17,000 people, mostly women, have committed suicide during the last 20 years in the Kashmiri Valley. But some women have helped in the formation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and are striving to develop programs for women’s empowerment.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move throughout Kashmir and change the hearts of many. Pray for effective discipling of the women of a gathering of Jesus followers in north India numbering in the tens of thousands. This gathering models biblical worship and fellowship patterns in an Indian context. Pray for many of these gatherings to spring up throughout Kashmir.
