Fouta Tooro People

by EC

The explorer Antoine de Saint-Exupery once wrote: “What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.” Despite a harsh environment and humble, hidden lifestyles, let us pray that the Fouta Tooro people group become a deep well, full and rich with true living water.
Much of the story of the Fouta Tooro is unknown. They lead quiet, hardworking lives as sojourners in their own homelands. Almost all Fouta Toro are Muslim, and many school children learn to pray and recite passages from the Qur’an in their village mosques. However, most people in this group only have a superficial knowledge of Islam, and religion is a valued tradition of recitations and rituals rather than a faith-based relationship.
Although the region that Fouta Tooro reside is known for its extreme temperatures and dry climate, it is also a rich farmland due to two growing seasons. The nomadic Fouta Tooro roam in small groups, living in makeshift huts constructed from leaves and grass. This people are engaged in a fight to claim their citizenship and receive their recognition from governments as a people group.

Pray for willing laborers who are called to live alongside the Fouta Tooro in an unforgiving and often dangerous climate. Pray for the person of Jesus Christ to be revealed directly to the Fouta Tooro, as a shepherd, as a big brother, and as the true king. Pray that the Fouta Tooro would claim their heavenly citizenship.
