Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore he waits on high to have compassion on you.

Pray that this will be the day when the Lord’s compassion falls upon the Beldar people of India.

Beldar People

by PD

(This story is intended to illustrate attitudes about this people group.)
Deepti, a Beldar woman working as a packer in a spice packing company in Delhi, was talking with one of her co-workers. “My husband and I come from a small village, and when he decided to come to Delhi to work as a brick maker he wanted me and our children to come with him. My whole world changed, and I learned a lot. My husband said it was all right for me to work. The extra money I make pays for my children’s education, and now they will be able to study and have good lives.”
The majority of the two million Hindu, low caste Beldar people live in villages located in the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Throughout their history they have been known as the people who work as hard laborers from brick making to clearing land. They also produce and sell an alcoholic drink. Alcoholism and some drug addiction is common among the Beldars. There are Beldars that are doing better economically in major cities. A few Beldars have converted to Islam, but almost all of them are controlled by their worship of many Hindu deities.
