Psalm 119:11 NIV
I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You.

All over the world, people hide words in their hearts. Muslims are extremely good at memorizing large portions of the Qur’an in the original 7th century Arabic. Brahmins like the Vaidikis are very familiar with the teachings of the Vedas which are written in ancient Sanskrit. It’s sad to think that they are looking for God in all the wrong places.

Pray that the Vaidikis will soon read the Scriptures and hide His true word in their hearts.

Vaidiki Brahmins

It is difficult to imagine Telugu as a minority language when 77 million people speak it! But, in light of the more than one billion people who live across India, Telugu does become a minority language. Yet it is a prominent language, as mentioned in the background article. Though there are several languages in India that are prominent enough for their speakers to have their own state, few of these languages are used for movies.

Telugu is the language of the Vaidiki Brahmins, who live primarily in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The name “Vaidiki” comes from the term “Vedas” meaning the large body of ancient texts of Hinduism. The Vaidikis devote their lives to reading, understanding, and preserving these writings. They believe these texts are not of human origin, but are directly revealed from above. Traditionally, the Vaidiki have been the teachers of various branches of the Hindu Vedas, and they practice Tapas, the spiritual lifestyle of suffering and austerity, comparable to asceticism in early Christianity. As a result, their life is very hard.
