Daily Topic for January 01, 2007
Israel’s highest privilege was her stewardship of the Word of God. Yahweh revealed His commands and precepts, His laws and ordinances, His judgments and decrees to Jacob’s descendants. He ordained the nation as a “kingdom of priests,” responsible to mediate His Word to those around them. God entrusted no other nation with such a privilege and related responsibility. Today we are surrounded by numerous translations of the Bible. Do we recognize that this privilege carries with it the same awesome responsibility to bless the nations?
Father, we have such abundant access to Your Word that we easily take it for granted. Give us a new compassion for those without the Scriptures and without the knowledge of Christ.
“My name is Tito, and I was born into a Muslim Mandinka family. When I was young, I went from Senegal, where I had been living, to Guinea Bissau, in order to help my brother build his house. He had promised to send me to France once the house was finished. It was during this time in Guinea Bissau, that I found an evangelistic group teaching that Jesus is the Son of God. So I asked the teacher: ‘Why do you say that Jesus is the Son of God if God never had a woman? We only recognize Jesus as a prophet.’ Right then the man handed a NT to me and asked me to wait for him until he finished his lesson. When he had finished he began to explain to me how Jesus is the Son of God and invited me to join his evangelism group.
“I began to go to the missionary’s home regularly. He taught me many things about Jesus and especially about John 14:6. As I was interested, I took him to where my brother stayed, where he would read portions of the Bible to me. My brother then got upset with me, and put me out.
