Jeremiah 17:7-8a
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.

Over and over the Bible uses water as a symbol of something that we need. It is a very tangible symbol—everyone knows that they need water to survive. In this verse Jeremiah describes how people can thrive and have their needs met when they put their confidence in the Lord. Though he is speaking of spiritual needs, the verse is very appropriate for those who lack the water of life.

Pray that the Southwestern Guiyang Miao people will soon find the One who is the Water of Life.

Southwestern Guiyang Miao (gway-yung-meow)

Mountaintop living isn’t always glamorous, especially for the Southwestern Guiyang Miao people! Because their homes are on mountaintops, the land is of poor quality and everything comes at a high price, especially water. Often their homes are a long distance from water sources, and Miao women are responsible for walking for hours down the mountainside to fetch water and bring it back up to their homes. In extreme cases, they will actually mix the water with cow urine to keep others from stealing the water. Often, when a Miao girl receives a marriage proposal, she will base her answer on how far the bridegroom’s water supply is from his village.
Animism and superstition guide the daily lives of this people group. With no Scriptures or the JESUS Film in their language, there are few tools available to bring them the gospel. There are a few small churches among them, but the population as a whole is unreached. According to the latest statistics, seventy-nine percent of this group have never heard the gospel.
Pray that God’s people will be moved to connect with the Southwestern Guiyang Miao. Pray for evangelism tools such as the JESUS Film to become available.
