It is very hard for anyone to continue in faith in Jesus and to not be moved from their hope if all those around them are telling them they are wrong. Day after day they face hostility and threats from those whom they hold dear. Today we are reading a story about a girl who dared to question the way her people have always done things. Could there be some from other people groups that are also looking for new answers that only Jesus can provide?
Pray that the Holy Spirit will grant enduring faith, hope, and love in Jesus to many from the Southern Dong and other unreached people groups so that God will be glorified.
The crowd cheered loudly as the two bulls locked horns. For a long moment it seemed that neither would budge. Then, in the blink of an eye, the bull from Li’s village toppled its opponent. Li and her friends jumped and shouted. The men from her village toasted the victory with whisky.
But Li’s excitement disappeared when she noticed that the opposing bull remained on the ground. It was hurt. She watched as men ran out to examine it; then, she cringed as they killed the beast.
Her fellow villagers continued to celebrate the victory, but Li’s heart was heavy. Not only was she sad about the bull being put down, but she was suddenly terrified by the thought of death. Where would the bull’s spirit go? For that matter, where would her own spirit go when she died? Li shivered. One of her friends took her hand and pulled her into the dance they were doing. Li danced, but it was with weary feet, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of a dark afterlife.
