Daily Topic for December 13, 2011
The Shi’ite Muslims of Saudi Arabia are persecuted by the Sunni Muslims. They often live in fear of them and seek comfort in the goodwill of saints, whom they wrongly think will intercede for them before Allah. The true and living God desires that they will find peace through His firm plan of salvation.
Pray that the Shi’ite Muslims of Saudi Arabia will embrace the firm and unchanging plans that the Lord has for them. May they then know what it means to be in a nation chosen by a loving God for His inheritance.
The white-robbed Sunni Muslim middle school teacher walked up and down the classroom aisles while his Shi’ite students looked downward. He said, “There is but one way to obey Allah, and that is the way of the Sunni Wahhabis. They are the only ones who obey the Qur’an. If you stray from these ways, you are guilty of heresy.” The Shi’ite Muslim boys bristled, but they knew they could say nothing without getting into trouble.
Living mainly in the Eastern Provinces, only 15 percent of Saudi citizens are Shi’ite Muslims. In all areas of life these Shi’ites experience discrimination and persecution. They are kept out of all areas of the armed forces, security services, and all political positions.
Most of their schools do not have a Shi’ite principle or board. Many of the teachers in their schools are Sunni Wahhabis who consistently tell the students they are heretics because they worship saints. In towns like Dammam there is only one mosque for 150,000 people, and the Shi’ite Muslim call to prayer is restricted. They are not allowed to have a cemetery, and the government has restricted how many Shi’ite names they can give their children. Frustrated, poor and desperate, these Shi’ites have cried out to the government for help only to be arrested and suppressed.
Pray that God will send faithful and loving servants to reach these Shi’ite Muslims so that they will become part of His Kingdom. Pray that God will open up the hearts of the Shi’ite Muslim communities in Saudi Arabia so that they can receive the good word of God.
