Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription. 'The Lord knows those who are His'...

Theologians have debated for centuries about the meaning of God’s “elect” and how that relates to reaching out to those who have not heard of His glorious ways. We know that God can call even remote, unknown ethnic groups like the Semnani people to His Kingdom, and He usually wants His children to be part of the process through prayer and evangelism.

Pray that the Semnani people will soon hear of Christ’s redemptive work on the cross, and His victorious resurrection.

Semnani People in Iran

by JR

Among the people groups of Iran, the Semnanis could be called its mystery people. Their origin is unclear and outsiders know relatively little about them. Many believe that a majority of them are herdsmen, making their living off the animals that they raise.

More than half of the land area of Iran is rough terrain or wasteland. This makes it difficult to raise much of anything except hearty animals such as sheep and goats that can tolerate such conditions. The area in which the Semnani have grazing land is very limited.

Health care and education opportunities are relatively poor anywhere in Iran outside of the capital city of Tehran. Iran’s illiteracy rate is high even in comparison to nearby nations.

Something else that is also very limited is the exposure to the gospel of Jesus Christ among most of Iran’s people groups, especially among the Semnanis. There are no significant numbers of believers among the Semnani people. Shi’ite Islam has been their religion for centuries. The Semnani speak the Farsi language fluently, along with an Indo-Iranian language also known as Semnani.

Pray that the Semnani people will be targeted for more specific, concentrated prayer and personal contact. Pray that the Lord will establish His church among the Semnani during this coming decade. Pray that they will soon have access to evangelistic materials in a language they can understand.
