Ever since OMF’s founding by Hudson Taylor in 1865, they have been working tirelessly to see “every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” among the peoples of East Asia. They started with an effort to take His Name to every province of China. This happened within 40 years. Though they were forced out of China when the Communists came to power, God used Chinese believers to extend His Kingdom much further within the Middle Kingdom. Meanwhile, OMF continues their work elsewhere in East Asia.
Pray for God to do a powerful work through OMF in Cambodia, just as He did in China.
Cambodia is a land of tremendous need as well as amazing opportunities. Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) is prepared to meet these needs and opportunities head-on.
Many Cambodians have never heard of Jesus; yet those who do hear are very receptive. Churches are actively training teachers to meet their needs and to tell others about Jesus. A missionary couple from Thailand started one of these churches in 1995. Under the sponsorship of OMF, this couple began working among the Cambodian people, offering to teach English and Thai to them. Thus began the Metreypheap Church, just west of Phnom Penh. From its small beginning, this church has trained cell group leaders, cross-cultural missionaries to the Muslim Cham people, and children’s workers.
OMF states its mission: “Through God’s grace we long to see the transformation of Cambodia through the proclamation and demonstration of the good news of Jesus Christ.” Khmer believers at the Metreypheap church are doing this by modeling Christ in their daily lives. They demonstrate compassion, train disciples, establish churches, equip leaders, and mobilize the Church for local and cross-cultural missions. Through the diligent training of local believers, the Khmer people are relying less and less on OMF missionaries and doing more of the outreach on their own.
Pray for the Lord to raise up thousands of Cambodian believers to extend this work beyond what outsiders can do. Pray for God to empower homegrown missionaries to reach Cambodia for Christ.
