Matthew 5:55
But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in Heaven.

This is a command that is impossible for fleshly man to obey. How do you not resent or even hate those who persecute you? Ministries like Open Doors lovingly point out the injustices done to Christ’s followers, but they also provide help for those who are persecuting them. Sometimes the help comes in the form of pointing out the injustice, and in other cases like we are reading about today, it comes in the form of physical relief.

Pray that the work of Open Doors will “open doors” to the gospel when Pakistani Muslim people see the good works of Christ’s followers.

Open Doors

The situation was dire; the whole village was under water. Most of the survivors had strong, solid tents built on the higher ground above the village, but there was another, smaller group a few hundred meters down the road existing in only improvised shelters made from branches and leaves.
“Why this disparity? Why this apparent discrimination?” asked Daniel, an Open Doors co-worker. The local Christian leader told him that believers were passed over when Islamic aid came to the village. All they got were leftovers. “However,” he added, “when a local church brought supplies to the Christians, they had to share with the whole village.”
It has been a little over a year since Pakistan experienced the devastating floods from the August 2010 monsoon, but the country is far from recovered. Over 20 million people have been affected. One-fifth of the country’s agricultural land has been covered by flood-waters, and 5000 miles of road and rail, together with 1000 bridges, have been destroyed. Muslims far outnumber Christians, and not only have Christians been sidelined in aid, but they also are fearful of threats and attacks from Islamic extremists. Some have even been told to vacate their region or convert to Islam.

Pray for the effective work of Open Doors and other partner organizations as they work with Christian families and churches. Pray that Muslims, even those from Islamic aid groups, will be touched and led to Christ through their efforts.
