John 10:16
I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.... and they shall be one flock with one shepherd.

The gospels provide us with four perspectives on the Lord Jesus, each emphasizing some particular aspect of His Person. Yet each gospel clearly presents His command to take the good news to the entire world. Here we read Jesus’ gentle reminder of the global nature of the good news. “Other sheep” may be understood as “other nations,” or “other peoples.” Let us exhort each other in the church to remember all the other sheep—of “every tongue, tribe, people, and nation that are not yet in the fold!”

Pray that we will be faithful to pray for those reaching out to the “other sheep” like the Negidaltse people of Russia.

Negidaltse People

by EJD

While her daughter-in-law cooked the evening meal, the elderly Senka sat on the ground digging potatoes from her kitchen garden. Before long Senka’s husband and sons, who were tending the animals on their small farm, would come home ravenous. The setting sun was casting long shadows on the ground, indicating to Senka that it was time to go indoors and that her little grandson would soon be returning from school. She hoisted the basket of potatoes on her head and walked toward the house.

No sooner had she unburdened herself of the load, than she heard the gleeful cackle of the returning children. Her face beamed when her grandson Jurek emerged around the corner. She asked him how his day had been in Negidal, their native tongue. Her already creased forehead furrowed when he replied in Russian that he had enjoyed himself. She had been trying to teach him to speak their language, but he only spoke Russian, the language in which his lessons were taught. She feared that soon her language, customs and culture would fade into oblivion.

The Negidaltse people of Russia are very few in number, and it might not be long before their language and culture disappears without a trace. The absence of a written language makes it difficult to bring the Word of God to them in their language.

Pray that God would raise up from among His people those who would take the message of salvation through Christ to this fast fading shamanistic people.
