James 5:16b
The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Prayer is an essential part of God’s plan to accomplish His will on earth. We cannot always understand just why and how prayer works. But Scripture assures us that prayer is necessary both to us and for the accomplishment of God’s work in the world. Powerful, effective prayer has a goal (the revealed will of God) and a promise (the assurance of God). When we pray in God’s will according to God’s promises, then our prayer is powerful and effective. We must remember that part of God’s will is that we make disciples of all the nations. He has promised to be with us to the end of the age as we pursue this objective.

Pray that the Father will teach us how to effectively intercede for the peoples of the world who long to know His truth.

Mutrasi People

The young couple gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes as they waited. She laughed nervously when her thoughts drifted to her parents. Would they accept this suitor? The couple had met on an on-line dating/marriage site that was limited to only their people group, the Mutrasis. Yet they knew that their parents preferred the traditional arranged marriage custom where negotiations take place between the bride’s and the groom’s parents. So now it was time to wait and see if her parents thought the two families could merge.

The Mutrasi are Telugu speakers that live in various parts of the southern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. They live in mainly agricultural communities, and as Hindus, they observe the many festivals honoring or appeasing a pantheon of gods. Traditionally the Mutrasi people were employed as soldiers or guards, but in peaceful times they cultivate cash crops supplemented with fishing, masonry, and some industrial labor.

Only four percent of the Mutrasi are Christians, and there are few evangelicals. However, the tools are in place to engage the Mutrasi: the Bible, the JESUS Film, and many audio and visual recordings. What is lacking? A concerted, focused prayer for these people.

Pray for God to work in the hearts of the few Mutrasi believers to reach out to the unsaved of their communities. Pray that our prayers will soon be used by God to prepare the hearts of the Mutrasi people to embrace Jesus when they hear the good news.-JS
