When young people go to school in a different cultural environment like Daniel and his friends did in Babylon, they have the opportunity to be able to share spiritual insights with their teachers and fellow students. Likewise, those who teach can also share cultural and spiritual insights with their students. The results can be a greater understanding of one another. One of the greatest hindrances to Qataris and Saudis coming to Christ in their respective homelands is that they have very few ways to hear who He really is. When taken out of the restrictive environment, they have opportunities that were never given to them before.
Pray that students from the Arabian Peninsula at Texas A&M will have the opportunity to find out who Jesus really is.
“Texas A&M University at Qatar is hosting 16 undergraduate students from the Texas College Station campus for a one-week exchange program. American students from Texas have an opportunity to explore in Qatar the Texas A&M Engineering Building, interact with fellow Aggies as well as visit local mosques, museums and even take a desert safari.” Alfred, a student at the College Station campus, read this announcement and said. “I’ve met some of the Qataris here, and they are great. I’m going to apply!”
For centuries, the desert offered only a meager living to Qatar’s local people through fishing and pearling. With the discovery of oil and natural gas, many Qataris eventually became wealthy and well educated. In 2009, Qatar Airways began non-stop flights to Houston Texas, thus increasing business opportunities.
Education is the key to the future, so hundreds of Qataris study in the U.S., especially at Texas A&M. In 2003, a branch of the university opened in Qatar.
Islam is the official religion and law of Qatar. Recently Qatar gave $20,000 for the printing of the English translation of the Qur’an and a brochure titled, “Islam for Americans.”Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that with so many opportunities available, especially through business and education, those who love Jesus will be able to reach the Muslim Qataris both in Qatar and in Texas.
