How many people in the world still haven’t heard of the Lord Jesus? That is very difficult to say-the Bible is translated into languages that more than 90 percent of the world speaks; Christian radio broadcasts blanket the earth; only a very few isolated groups have never heard anything of Christianity. But there are nearly 10,000 groups who don’t yet have a Church of their own, that is, in their own language or cultural sphere. Their ability to meaningfully hear the gospel is often dependent upon the presence of a Church community they can see in operation.
Pray that these groups may hear about Christ within their own culture!
About 70,000 Ismailis live in Canada today. They trace their ancestry back to seventh-century South Asia when they broke away from the mainstream Sunni Muslims. Centuries later, many of them came to the U.S. and Canada after 80,000 people of South Asian descent were expelled from Africa in the 1970s.
Like the Memons we prayed for yesterday, Ismailis have a deep commitment to community and family welfare. They believe that each family within an Ismaili community is responsible for the welfare of the whole group. For example: they care for each other by establishing and maintaining programs designed to help the elderly, retirees, young families, etc. They make short-term financial assistance available to community members in need. A National Settlement Committee helps new Ismaili immigrants find housing and jobs. The Ismaili community finances these programs.
Many Ismailis are successful businessmen, entrepreneurs and professionals. They are hard workers and honest. Most belong to the middle class. But they are without a Savior to forgive their sins and without hope of eternal life.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray for sensitive workers to come alongside Ismailis in businesses and professional positions. Pray that they will be able to give the reason for the hope that they have, with gentleness and respect. Pray that Ismaili leaders will soon see why their communities need Jesus as savior and Lord.-JWS
