Romans 12:5
So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

One of the most exciting things happening in the world today is the partnership between the older churches and the younger churches in mission outreach. Older churches have known the gospel for many centuries and have been the traditional missionary-sending churches for the past several hundred years. In the past 200 years, older churches have planted younger churches in the developing world. Now these so-called younger churches in places like Nigeria are forming mission agencies of their own, and we are hearing more and more about the fruit of their efforts.

Pray for dedicated believers in Nigeria to send missionaries to be salt and light to their countrymen living in Houston.

Muslim Hausas in Houston

Balouja was so furious he was ready to throw his shoe at the television! CNN was broadcasting “How to Rob a Bank,” a documentary on Nigerian fraudsters. The 2006 documentary told of Nigerians in Houston who found ways to make fast money through identity theft efforts involving credit cards and false bank accounts. “Why are they singling us out?” he screamed to no one in particular.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) wrote to CNN to protest what they considered to be sloppy, inaccurate reporting that portrayed only the worst Nigerians in America as being the norm. They went on to point out that of the 120,000 Nigerians who live in Houston, most of them are doing constructive work in the oil industry, etc. (see http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/press-releases/4006-response-cnns-offensive-unacceptable-generalizations-about-nigerians-houston.html)

Not all Nigerians agree. One of them commented, “NIDO, what you guys should do is to set up and build an intelligence and information sharing association with the relevant U.S. authorities to rid yourself (Nigerian community in the USA and the Americas) and Nigeria of the scourge visited on us by those few bad apples. Let us wake up!”

Though a little over half of Nigeria is “Christian” the dominant ethnic group in that country is Hausa, which is almost entirely Muslim.

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among the Nigerian communities in America in such a way that corruption will become a thing of the past. Pray for both Muslims and false Christians among them to allow Jesus to be Lord of their lives.
