While many today struggle over the question of what role women should play in the church, the example of Deborah reminds us that in times of crisis, women often give strong leadership. From the early days of Protestant missions, women have carried tremendous responsibilities in overseas service and mission administration. Many times, in areas where men could not (or would not) go, women have taken the gospel to peoples who would otherwise never have had the opportunity to hear. They have shared the work, the joys, and the rewards. Accounts of missionary successes justly include the deeds of many capable women.
Dear Lord, use Your daughters today also to provide leadership in bringing blessing to the families of the earth.
The two million nomadic Gujjars of Kashmir are in desperate economical and physical straits. One village elder says, “The rest of the country has poverty, but here we live in a dangerous combination of poverty and terrorism.” As the objects of ethnic cleansing from Muslim fanatics, the communities have taken up arms to defend themselves and have formed highly effective village defense committees. To make matters worse, the Indian army will not allow nomadic Gujjars in Kashmir to make their seasonal migration to the highland pastures. Their livelihood depends on these migrations.
Gujjars living in Rajasthan state are not doing any better. In late May, a group of Gujjars blocked a key road and demanded that they be given a quota of India’s affirmative action jobs to help them out of their poverty. In the ensuing clash with the police, at least seven Gujjars died, according to “BBC News.”

Pray for evangelists willing to face the danger and hardships to go to the Gujjars, and pray that they will respond to the oral Word. Pray that the Gujjars will turn away from fear and embrace the almighty Christ.-JS
