Nahum 3:3a
Many casualties, piles of dead bodies without number, people stumbling over the corpses—all because of the wanton lust of a harlot, alluring the mistress of sorceries, who enslaved nations by her prostitution and peoples by her witchcraft.

Though this verse refers to the work of an evil nation in biblical times, it also applies to the nation state run from Khartoum. Their desire for the wealth of the peoples of the southern regions and the western Darfur region has led to bloodshed which God hates.

Pray for the Lord to minister to the needs of the Masalits and other peoples in Darfur who are victims of violence. Pray for Him to steer the government away from its violent course before judgment becomes necessary.

Masalit People

by WK

The hair on the back of Jim’s neck stood on end as he made this grim announcement to his teammates: “Everyone in this village is dead!” Jim gathered his team in the open area near the center of the Masalit village and made a crucial decision. “We’re too late. Let’s get out of here before whoever did this returns.” The bodies didn’t stink, so they knew the attack had been recent. Jim and his team got back into the land rover and hastily drove away. They didn’t want an encounter with the militia group responsible for the killings.

The Masalit are a black skinned people group that lives near the Sudan-Chad border in the heart of Darfur’s most dangerous region. This people group used to be herders until a drought killed many of their animals. That’s when the Masalits began settling in lands claimed by Arab people groups. War erupted when the Masalits refused to leave. This people group is Muslim, and there are few if any followers of Christ among them.

Ask God to open the hearts of the Masalit people to the message of salvation. Pray for the end of the warfare that makes it dangerous for missionaries to operate in Darfur. Ask God to lead mission agencies to reach out to the Masalits. Pray that God would break the hold that Islam has on this people group.
