How can a child born in a manger express the nature of God’s rule? In this baby we can see the personal, reconciling work of God the Father. That which is everlasting has stepped into time and history. That which is beyond humanity has personally proclaimed the love of the Father for the whole world. The peace which eludes even the best of us can now be established by the presence of this Prince. This little baby proclaims in His very person the plan and purpose of the God of all nations.
Thank the Father for bringing peace to our own hearts and relationships. Pray that He will honor His Name as we in turn serve as ministers of reconciliation. Pray that the Maranao people in Saudi Arabia will experience and share Christ’s perfect peace with others.
Maria went from bed to bed in the Saudi Arabian hospital as she checked on her patients. She saw the look of fear on the faces of the dying. She’d seen that same look back home, while working in a hospital in the southern Philippines.
Maria was from the Marano people group. Marano nurses are common in Saudi Arabia. Most Maranos are Muslims, unlike many other people groups in the Philippines. Nurses like Maria have learned that Allah doesn’t provide comfort for the dying no matter what country you happen to be in.
Nurses are in short supply in Saudi Arabia. There are 2,000 Marano nurses working at various Saudi hospitals. Saudi hospitals prefer to hire Maranos because they are Muslims and not Christians, Buddhists or Hindus. The Maranos are a minority group from the island of Mindanao, where they have had problems with various nominally Christian people groups over land rights. Some members of this people group have resorted to guerilla warfare. Because of the violence some Maranos have fled to foreign lands to find peace.
