Paul asked the church at Thessalonica to pray for him and for the rapid spread of the gospel to those to whom it had not yet come. That prayer can be ours today. As the gospel has come to us, so let it be our compelling vision to see it spread quickly to the ends of the earth. Read the above verse again. This time replace the “us” with the name of a missionary who is laboring on some difficult field. Then, pray for him or her.
Dear Father, strengthen Your servants around the globe that Your gospel message will spread rapidly among those who have not heard.
After a long wait at the Buddhist temple in Tokyo, the American tourists finally snapped the pictures they’d been waiting to get. The tour group had wanted to see parents dedicating their children before a Buddhist priest. They’d waited hours for a couple in their 30s to arrive with their kimono-clad seven-year-old daughter in tow. After getting their pictures, the tourists boarded the nearby bus, some of them wondering out loud why they’d seen so few children at the temple. They didn’t know about Japan’s plunging birth rate.
In 2005 Japan’s birth rate fell below 1.3 children per woman, far below the 2.1 per woman needed to maintain a stable population. One reason for this decline is that Japanese youth are delaying marriage to build their careers. A second reason for Japan’s plunging birth rate is the increase in sexual immorality. Study after study, done in many countries, has shown a link between a rise in immorality and a drop in the birth rate. Like their Western counterparts, the Japanese are being deceived into thinking that sex is only a form of recreation rather than a way to build a family and to foster life-long intimacy.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God would save the Japanese people from physical and spiritual destruction. Ask God to raise up leaders among the emerging church in Japan that will call the Japanese to repentance and righteousness.-WK
