Romans 16:27
To the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

From beginning to end, the book of Romans shows God’s concern for all nations in every chapter. There is no more appropriate way to end this study than the way Paul ends the book: giving glory to our Lord Jesus Christ. We need to remember why we are concerned about taking the gospel to the nations: in order to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. All heaven will echo with the praises of people from every tribe, tongue and nation. That is why we learn, pray and give every day on behalf of the unreached peoples like the Jains!

Pray that soon the Jains will give Him glory.

Jains in Houston

by JWS

Be careful! Watch out! There’s a bug on the sidewalk, she thought to herself. Sadika, a 17-year old Jain nun, avoids stepping on insects on the sidewalk as she walks through her Houston neighborhood. She also wears a facemask to avoid accidentally inhaling an insect. This reflects the Jain respect for all forms of life.

Ahimsa or non-violence, is one of the five main concepts of Jainism. Jains believe that every living being has a soul, and that all souls are in the process of attaining moksha (enlightenment) through spiritual discipline and reincarnation. Jainism originated in India about the sixth century B.C.

In the early 1970s the Jains began arriving in America in significant numbers, and today, about 100,000 live in the U.S. The Jain Society of Houston is a vital, growing group with many young adult members. Some of their activities include feeding the homeless, community work projects and weekend retreats. Jains often go into business, and many are wealthy, just as they are in India.
It is very easy to see groups like the Jains and forget that, despite their high morals and significant contributions, they still lack a relationship with the One who holds their future. Little has been done to introduce them to Christ.

Pray that Jains will come to know the love of the Creator of life. Pray they would soon realize that they are not condemned to a long cycle of reincarnations. Pray for Christ followers with business experience to reach out to them.
