Psalms 139:13
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Every one of the six billion individuals on Earth was “knit together” for God’s purposes. One of the key purposes of godly parents is to help their children to understand His purpose for them. Likewise, a good missionary will teach the people they go to about God’s purpose for them as a group. Many years ago, the Hausa people were instrumental in spreading Islam, especially in Nigeria. Though this effort brought animistic peoples to the knowledge that there is but one God, it is incomplete without knowledge of Christ.

Pray that God will raise up hundreds of Hausa believers to take the good news to their Muslim neighbors that Jesus Christ alone paid for the sins of the world.

Hausa People of Nigeria

In her seven short years of life, Gimbya had loved and lost two sets of fathers and stepsiblings. Mother was about to introduce the girl to her new husband, his two other wives and eight children who would live with them. No, she thought, I do not want to know them. Tears fell onto her lap for the daddy her mother recently divorced. Daddies leave. Daddies break your heart. Families leave. Families break your heart. Gimbya’s little heart first melted then turned to stone in her chest. She finally rose; chin out, to meet “these people.”

Divorce and the competing multiple wives of their fathers is a frequent and common fact of life for the children of the 20 million Hausas in Nigeria. Security and continuity are non-existent in the family setting and the children suffer greatly for it, perhaps even more than from the poverty that the incessant droughts bring to the Hausas, forcing them to abandon rural areas and pack the cities looking for work.

Pray that as Hausa children and their families practice their form of Islam, that they will realize that they are in a spiritual drought. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to them through dreams and visions, and that the gospel will penetrate their yearning hearts. Pray that children and entire families will be saved and know the love of the Heavenly Father who will never leave them or forsake them.
