Acts 17:22
Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious.”

Throughout the world missionaries encounter members of unreached people groups who are “very religious,” just like the people of Athens. Is “being religious” a step in the right direction? In this case, it didn’t seem to be since only a few people in Athens became followers of Christ as a result of Paul’s preaching. He didn’t spend much time with them, but instead went on to Corinth where he hoped to find spiritually hungry hearts. Yet there are people out there who have spiritual questions and have no answers except those given by “religion.” How will our missionaries find them?

Pray that the Lord will lead today’s workers to the “religious” people who are sincerely looking for truth and righteousness.

Druze in Paris

by GC

They do not allow converts to their religion. Either you were born a Druze or you can never become a Druze. Evidence suggests that in the past some outsiders could inch their way into the group, but not so today.

This fortress mentality contrasts with the Druze attitude about their surroundings. In whatever country they live or travel, they feel free to worship with the dominant religion of that society. Although they sprang out of Egyptian Islam, they have borrowed many teachings from other religions and cultures. From Judaism they believe in Moses and the prophets; from Christianity they believe that Jesus will return at the climax of history; from Hinduism they believe in the reincarnation and transmigration of souls; and from Greek philosophy they believe in the idea of ultimate reason and Aristotle’s logic. So in Arab countries they easily blend in with the Muslim society and in the Christian West they merge with Christianity.

Take this inner isolation and mix it with the ability to blend with their surroundings and set these ingredients in secular Paris. This presents a unique challenge to believers who wish to reach this unreached people group. Only the Holy Spirit can penetrate to the level of one’s heart beliefs. And only He can melt the mental barriers that guard the Druze belief system.
