Matthew 9:11
Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?

Jesus had just called Matthew—a tax collector, a despised “sinner,” an outcast—to follow Him. This disturbed the Pharisees, who would not associate with such people. But Jesus’ response was as convincing as it was clear: “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick…. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” This is the state of countless millions in our world today. Outcasts, despised minorities, drug addicts: are they within God’s scope of concern? Yes. In fact, our Lord focused His concern on them. Should we not do the same?

Pray that the Savior will give us His sacrificial love for the despised and oppressed.

Drug Rehabilitation Work

by GEC

Pastor Roman ministers from his base in Vladivostok, Russia, at the eastern-most point of the country. His “House of Life” network of churches spreads even to other countries.

One of their primary ministries involves drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. At 30 years of age, Sergei looked 50. Neither hospitals nor doctors could break his drug addiction. When his wife and children left him, he turned to the “House of Life.” Pastor Roman ministers to the complete person, not just to the physical addiction. He understands the social and psychological needs of the addicts. But most of all he ministers to the spiritual needs of the people. Sergei moved in and worked through their treatment program. Now he is attending one of the Bible schools connected with “House of Life.”

He will follow the example of other former addicts. He will move to a new area. There he will focus on one of the unreached people groups in eastern Russia. He will plant a new church and open another rehabilitation center. And the Kingdom of God will grow!

Pastor Roman requests that we pray that churches will actively reach out to the unreached in their midst. Pray for “fire in a love for God, holiness in lives and obedience to God’s Word” among the minorities. Pray that the unreached peoples of Russia will soon hear about Jesus Christ.
