Psalms 150:5-6
…praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

The Dioula people of West Africa are noted for their ability to play drums well. They may soon have some of their people making good money performing in European cities. But what good it to gain the whole world if you forfeit your soul? God has given the Dioula people talent for a reason.

Pray that soon Dioula drummers will use their God-given talent to glorify and worship Christ.

Dioula People

by Wesley Kawato

In the middle of the village, Kreba and his young students began beating their drums and girls formed a circle to dance. A missionary watched the dancing knowing the work he had to do. This people group would miss the dance celebration in heaven if they didn’t come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. These Dioula people are Muslims. It was up to him to tell these people, adults and children alike, that Jesus is the God who could save them from sin.

The Dioula people live in West Africa, from Senegal to Cote d’Ivoire. Even in a continent known for their drum playing, the Dioulas are among the best. They were contacted by Muslim missionaries centuries ago. This people group became one of the first in this region to convert to Islam, but most still mix elements of animism into their worship of Allah.

In recent years European tourists have had increasing contact with the Dioula people, especially with the children who are being groomed as the future drum masters.

Pray that one day Dioula drummers will go to Europe and there hear of the Savior. Pray that soon Dioula boys will play their drums and their girls will dance to worship and praise the King of Kings. Ask God to open the hearts of the Dioulas to the message of salvation.
