Jeremiah 9:23-24a
This is what the Lord says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me…

The Bohra communities have worldly wealth, and they try to have spiritual wealth as well. They have been seeking for hundreds of years to look to the right leader to help them obey God more fully.

Pray that the Lord will help the Bohras to understand and know the One whom they seek, but yet do not know.

Daudi Bohras

“The Bohras are good in business but very protective of their privacy, so it took many months of confidence-building before the community leaders in Mumbai allowed me to join some of them in their homes.” The writer was explaining how he came to know the Bohras. Protective of each other, Bohras often stay within their tight communities and families. However, if a Bohra trusts an outsider, he will be very loyal to that person.

The one million Daudi Bohra Muslims primarily live in Mumbai and Gujarat State in western India. However, there are over 470 major Bohra communities living in 40 other nations. Traditionally they have been shopkeepers, but today many Bohras are entering high-tech professions and becoming surgeons, mechanical engineers and software designers. The majority of them utilize modern communication technology such as the Internet in their business, social and spiritual lives.

As devoted Ismaili Shi’ite Muslims, Bohras stay in close contact with the spiritual leader of their community for guidance and directions. Ismaili Shi’itism developed after a dispute in 765 A.D. over who was to be next imam, or spiritual leader. Ismailis recognized Ismail as the imam. Upon his death, they accepted his son, Mohammed, as the seventh and final imam. They follow most of the Islamic doctrines, but add some of their own teachings and interpretations of the Qur’an.

Pray that more believers will develop trusting friendships with the Bohras so they can hear God’s truth and find their true spiritual direction and strength in Him.
