Paul, of all Christ’s apostles, probably had the most intimate knowledge of the Old Testament. After his conversion he spent three years in Arabia, re-studying the Scriptures under the illumination of the Holy Spirit. As Paul came to understand the centrality of God’s promises through Abraham, he realized the priority of being a channel of blessing to “all the families of the earth.” This priority throughout his ministry resulted in the establishment of culturally appropriate, evangelizing churches among a score of Gentile people groups throughout the Mediterranean world.
Lord, open our eyes as well to the mission themes of Scripture, and use Your Word to lead us to new faith and obedience.
Than leaned closer to the computer monitor searching for any word from home. After weeks of silence the message board was clogged with snippets of information in answer to his question “What has happening since the protests in Myanmar?” Phrases like “protests brutally suppressed,” “people are very worried,” “arrested and detained,” “the junta’s intelligence forces are everywhere,” “soldiers checking computers,” “losing hope,” pepper the email messages.
Than buried his face in his hands and prayed to Jesus: “Lord, please help my people. They have again lost their voice. Here it is, the end of 2007, and still they suffer.”
It is common to say that to be Burmese is to be Buddhist, but Than is one of the few blessed ones whose family put their faith in Christ since Missionary Adoniram Judson brought the gospel to Burma in 1813. Judson’s words sadly still ring true when he stated, “Perhaps we stand on the dividing line of the empires of darkness and light.” Hundreds of thousands of Burmese like Than, have emigrated to other lands. But 32 million Burmese Buddhists remain in Myanmar in the dominion of darkness.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Ask God to take authority over the powers and principalities that are keeping the Burmese bound. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften the hearts of the Burmese toward believers so that they will be receptive to the gospel, and ask the Lord to call people who are willing to go to Myanmar and share the love of Christ with the Burmese people.-PE
