The Bereans are still an example to us today. It is common for Bible study groups to call themselves something like, “The Berean Fellowship,” indicating that they focus on understanding God’s Word. Brahmins who study their scriptures, the Vedas, understand the value of the printed word. Unfortunately, they don’t understand the value of the Risen Christ. What would happen if Brahmins in a place like London where the Word is readily available had the chance to study the Bible? It might be that the Bible would speak for itself.
Pray for God to raise up “Berean” Brahmins who will understand the value of His Word, and allow it to lead them to the Savior.
Rahul hurried from the Brahmin Society of North London Hall after attending the Sunday evening Bagavad Gita lessons offered every week. The ominous clouds that hung overhead presaged a wet evening, and he wanted to reach home without getting drenched. He had been fighting his parents on taking the classes over the past several weeks. “Son, you must learn more about our religion and culture,” coaxed his erudite father. Rahul, an over achieving student of science, kept refusing, “I have no room for superstition. Science has the answers,” he said. However, after his first lesson he came away from class feeling confused. The teacher suggested that Hindu philosophy has room for every worldview.
The Brahmins form the top wrung of Hindu society. Traditionally trained to study the Vedas (Hindu scriptures), Brahmins are now found at the top of almost every field, both in India and in the U.K. In cities such as London, they excel in anything involving mathematics or business. The thinking of philosophical Brahminism is especially helpful for those who are involved with higher mathematics.
Philosophical Brahmins are well trained in their scriptures, and they are very resistant to exclusive belief in Christ. They think that all Jesus has to offer is lower status.
Pray that Christ Jesus would reveal Himself to the Brahmins in the U.K., and that they might worship Him and Him alone as Lord. Pray that the Brahmins will understand the value of a life dedicated to Him.
