We must purify our hearts, submit ourselves to God, and come near to Him. Then we must tell the people about Jesus and how He died on the cross for our sins. What a message we have for the nations! How happy they could be to hear it and receive it.
Pray for the Balija people to embrace this message, so that they can come near to God and learn His word.
Another day dawned for Bhavani, a Balija man. He unlocked the tin shutters of his small shop as a bus pulled out from the stop emitting a thick black plume. Over-crowded auto-rickshaws and two-wheelers were weaving in and out of traffic. Horns were blowing and people were yelling, while Bhavani settled down on his stool inside his establishment, a small, box-like, tin shop. Even before Bhavani could complete his daily ritual of praying to the gods that hung framed atop the dusty shelf, children crowded at the counter wanting to buy notebooks, pencils and candies. An irate man wanted to buy a case of beedi, a thin cigarette filled with tobacco flakes wrapped in a tendu leaf tied with a string at one end. Bhavani barked at the noisy children, “Keep quiet, I’m counting change.”
He did not want his son to have the same dull destiny as he had, working day after day in a small shop barely making ends meet. He wanted his son to study at the “big” college in the city and make something of himself. As compensation for years of abuse because he belongs to a low caste, the government’s quota system has made it relatively easy for his son to get an education.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the local church would bring the gospel of Christ to the Balija people. Pray that their hearts may be prepared to receive the gospel.-EJD
