Daniel 3:25
Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.

What a beautiful picture of God’s deliverance of His children! So many things accompanying our earthly life can become great weights, binding us and holding us down. Those who have faced extreme difficulty in the service of Christ testify that human extremity actually brings a wonderful freedom. It is like a bond slave’s freedom; having died to his own freedom, he is now free to completely serve the Master he loves. And Christ promises His presence with us—especially in our moment of trial and especially as we go forth in His service.

Pray for the faith and courage to depend on His presence in every trial.

Azeri People in Iran and Azerbaijan

by JS

When a journalist asked an Azeri woman who was crossing the fluid border between Azerbaijan and Iran why she was going into Iran, she replied, “I go to market on the other side because food is cheaper there.” Many cross back and forth on a daily basis.

However, members of Iran’s Azeri minority have long claimed that their rights are stifled even though they make up a quarter of Iran’s population. Oil is at the heart of many of Iran’s worries. Azerbaijan, a nation state dominated by Azeris, (see yesterday’s map) is Israel’s main supplier of oil. Iran’s state controlled Sahar TV often accuses Azerbaijan of being a “Zionist regime” that helps their enemy.
The development of petroleum reserves in the region has changed the living conditions of many Azeris. While some still farm the rich soil, many have moved to the cities and towns to work in industry. Historically the Azeris have identified more with Islam than with their own country.

The Azeris living in Iran are very resistant to the gospel. Currently there are no known believers among them. However, there is the availability of the JESUS Film and Scriptures in the Azeri language, and there is one mission agency targeting them for outreach.

Pray that Iran’s spiritual awakening will reach the Azeri people. Pray for God to give His strategies to the mission agency that hopes to reach them.
