The “backbone” of the Bible-God’s passion for redeeming men from all nations-continues to bring into perspective all of His acts, including those of righteous judgment. In Acts 17:26-27 Paul declared, “From one man, He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth. And He determined the times set for them and the exact place where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him.” Here, then, is the explanation of the linguistic and ethnic “scattering” that began at Babel. By dividing mankind into sub-groups, God has fostered a search for truth and created avenues through which the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ may be proclaimed.
Praise God for His infinite wisdom!
A century ago, the wild-rubber boom killed 90 percent of their people. They fled to the rainforest. Just as their numbers began to increase, petroleum exploration brought new diseases, attacks and deaths. Most recently, illegal logging operations threaten them again, according to Survival International, a London-based human rights organization that focuses on the rights of at-risk tribal peoples. These are the Yora, a small tribe in Southeast Peru. They roam among the headwaters of four rivers, tributaries to the Amazon River.
They still describe an airplane as a “big father,” that is, a spirit bird leaving a trail behind it. New blasts from exploration, they attribute to gods fighting. These new experiences rekindle and fuel their fears.
So how did they survive? They retreated to the most remote regions of the rainforest in hopes that outsiders wouldn’t bother them. Other tribes in this region do the same thing: retreat rather than fight the outside world. Given this distrust and fear, how can we bring them the good news of Jesus?Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will provide a way for these vulnerable people to be protected. Pray that God will bring His message from neighboring tribes who already follow Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit will prepare the Yoras to receive his good news.-EF
