Dan. 6:28
"So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian."

Scholars have estimated that Daniel was about 90 years old-toward the end of his lifetime of civil service to successful regimes-when he experienced God’s miraculous protection in the lion’s den. God honored Daniel’s faith and obedience and used him to bless Babylonians, Chaldeans, Medes, and Persians. We may confidently expect to enjoy fellowship together around the throne of God with members of each of these ancient peoples. Daniel was faithful to his mission. Will Daniel be able to enjoy fellowship at that same gathering with representatives of other people groups because we too have been faithful to the task to which the Lord calls us?

Father, like Daniel of old, give us the perseverance to serve You well.

Animistic Atwot People of Sudan

They believe that certain followers of the false deity, Decau, have divine powers that can bring inanimate objects to life. Ninety-five percent of the Atwots are Animistic. These people practice divination and magic and offer sacrifices to Decau whom they believe to be the creator of all.

There are 25,000 Atwot people in the Upper Nile River Valley of Sudan. They have similarities with neighboring peoples, but there are often fights between them. In 2005 more than 100 were killed as a result of inter-ethnic conflict in Yirol West, the central meeting place of the Atwot. Most of the killings were related to cattle rustling.

These shepherds and farmers live in one village during the wet season and in another throughout the dry season. They travel to various towns for supplies. The change of scenery is a welcome break from the monotony of village life. Atwot settlements consist of small huts for sheep and goats, a hut for the husband, and a hut for the wife. She feeds her family from the produce grown in her own garden. The Atwot people need a translation of the Bible and the JESUS Film in their own language.

Pray that God will thrust forth qualified linguists to accomplish these tasks. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give Atwot believers the courage to boldly share the love of Jesus with their own people.-JKW
