2 Corinthians 10:14-16
"For we did get as far as you with the gospel of Christ.... Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our area of activity among you will greatly expand, so that we can preach the gospel in the regions beyond you."

Was the apostle Paul too proud to preach the gospel where it had already been proclaimed? No, that was not the issue. He simply wanted to make the best use of his life and spend his energies in planting the church where it had not yet been established. To keep that vision ever visible, one contemporary mission board has even placed its goal prominently in its name: Regions Beyond Missionary Union.

Father, keep us from complacency and satisfaction with what has already been accomplished in world evangelization. Lead us to pray for, send missionaries to, and go to the regions beyond.

Burmese People in Singapore

In 1988 Burma, now called Myanmar, endured a bloody uprising. Three years later Singapore began accepting Burmese engineers, professionals and degree holders into their city. The numbers of Burmese people in Singapore have grown and now they form a large number of well-educated leaders in their new society. They are known to be generally soft-spoken, and possess high moral and social values.

They have begun to speak out about political and human-rights problems in their old homeland. They have even organized quiet, peaceful protests to call attention to the plight of their families and countrymen still in Myanmar. The Burmese in Singapore sponsor many Buddhist and community organizations. But among the list of associations such as the Myanmar Business Association and Burmese Buddhist Temple, is listed the Judson Baptist Church. Although Christians number less than two percent of the Singapore Burmese population, they are still a speck of light in the darkness.

Pray that these Christians will be filled with the resurrection power of the Lord and that the members of their churches will faithfully proclaim Jesus to the Burmese Buddhists in Singapore. Pray that the technologically and educationally advanced people will have access to the spiritual truth of Jesus Christ. Pray that the Christian Internet sites, Christian businessmen and believers in their own community will be bright beacons leading many to salvation through Jesus.-PE
