Jeremiah 23:16, NIV
This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD.

Pray for the Jianshui Nisu people to find the true hope of Christ.

Jianshui Nisu People

by PD

(This story is intended to illustrate truths about this people group.)
Boom, boom, boom! The sounds of gongs, drums, horns, and loud chanting of ritual prayers to the gods of the Jianshui Nisu people scared the Nisu child who started to cry at the beginning of the Torch Festival. His grandmother comforted him by saying, “Look the beautiful fires! The flames are dancing and crackling as they jump into the air.” His older brother asked the grandmother, “Why do we have this festival? Grandmother answered, “When we throw burning torches into the fire, it drives evil spirits away.”
Nearby the boy’s older sister, Mei, wearing an elaborate red headdress and matching belt around her waist, had joined some other girls in hopes of drawing the attention of a handsome Jianshui boy named Zhong. Suddenly Zhong ran up to her laughing and snatched the belt from her dress. Mei was elated; she had hoped this would happen. Now Zhong was officially her boyfriend.
The old traditions are still important to the Jianshui Nisu people who are also trying to adapt to modern changes. The 226,000 Jianshui Nisu have been a dominant group in southern Yunnan Province for many centuries. Although Christians first began witnessing to them in 1933, today there are only a few believers among them.
