Luke 6:27-28
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

According to Romans 5:10 while we were yet enemies of God, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. As the Acehnese people come to Him, they will be surrounded by enemies who will curse, abuse, and persecute them. Jesus’ command? Bless them! How can the persecuted do this impossible thing? Answer: as they open their mouths and start pronouncing blessings, God’s rivers of blessings will flow through the believers, changing them, teaching them, strengthening them and nourishing them.

Pray for God’s Spirit to flow through His messengers and soften the hearts of the Acehnese people so that they can receive His blessings.

Acehnese People of Indonesia

by JR

In many ways you could not ask for a better living situation than that of the Aceh people of Indonesia. They have what is believed to be some of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in East Asia, as well as a long, steady history of independence from foreign powers. And the climate is very livable, not straying far from 80 degrees F year round!

But in other ways there might not be a worse region to live in. The land near the ocean was decimated following the horrible 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami which killed 167,000 people. They still haven’t fully recovered. There is also an on and off struggle between Indonesia’s government and the Free Aceh Movement, which wants complete independence from Indonesia. The Acehnese people are willing to fight and die for independence from a government that they believe robs them of their natural resources.

They are also fiercely dedicated to Sunni Islam and have done much evangelistic work on its behalf. Some Acehnese people have opposed with violence those who turn away from Islamic beliefs. As a result, there are but a handful of Bible believing Christians among them.

Pray that the Aceh people will be dissatisfied with their spiritual lives and seek out His truth. Pray that the neighbors of the Aceh who love the Lord will reach out to them, resulting in a massive movement to Christ.
