Mark 1:15
"The time has come," He said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

Jesus is announcing a new era; He is ushering in the kingdom of God. Our response should be to repent and believe the good news in such a way that it leads to a new life that will draw others to Him. This is exactly what we are calling the unreached Hindus, Buddhists, animists, and Muslims to do. Your prayers are a part of extending His Kingdom. What a joy and a privilege you have!

Pray for His Kingdom to extend into the hearts of all the unreached peoples of Thailand!

Thai Isaan People

by Saeng Fisher, guest writer

“Bless this baby! Keep the 32 resident spirits firmly with him! May his soul live long!” As she spoke, Auntie Gaew tied a white cotton thread onto the one-month-old infant’s wrist. Neighbors waited to speak similar blessings over the child at his one-month-old “coming out” ceremony.

In some ways Isaan Buddhists of northeast Thailand are indistinguishable from the majority Central Thai people. Isaan are educated in the standard government curriculum and speak Central Thai at work. At home, however, they are quite different from their Central Thai cousins. They speak the same language as the Lowland Lao and share a common cultural heritage with that people group. They eat sticky rice as their staple food, and they observe the animist practice of string tying for spiritual protection.

There is a perception among the 20 million Central Thai Buddhists that the 20 million Isaan Buddhists are “ignorant country folk.” However, poor soil and a dry climate have created economic disadvantage for the Isaan, causing them to seek work across Thailand. For that reason your taxi driver in Bangkok or waitress at the beach is likely to be an Isaan Thai.

Although Isaan people are deeply in bondage to folk Buddhist practices, whenever believers have shared Jesus with them through personal relationships, they are usually open to Christ.

Ask the Lord to set whole families free from spiritual bondage. Pray that God will raise up local believers who will bring in a spiritual harvest of tens of thousands of Isaan in this generation.-Saeng Fisher, guest writer
