Chapters 13 and 14 tell the most amazing story of faith in the Bible! The Philistines mustered an army of 30,000 chariots, 6,000 cavalry, and “troops like the sand on the seashore in multitude.” The army of Israel deserted King Saul until there were only 600 soldiers left, and none of them had swords or spears. Jonathan and his armor bearer scrambled up a steep cliff, immediately killed about 20, and the Lord brought about their confusion and sent an earthquake, resulting in a resounding victory.
Pray that the missionaries God is sending to the Songhai people will look not at the strength of all the enemy forces, but at their Warrior God!
The International Mission Board (IMB) is one of several agencies serving the needs of the Songhai people of West Africa. Their blog likens their ministry to a puzzle: different pieces come together to create an inspiring picture of what God is doing among the Songhai. The IMB cooperates with other agencies to show the love and light of Isa al Masih in this historic region.
One of the IMB workers related her response to the brief life of a little boy, Husseini. His community did not expect him to live. But through prayer and the ministry of the IMB staff, he survived four months. To people from any part of the world this is a terrible tragedy. Husseini was a precious new human life! But to the Songhai, as with many people groups in harsh environments, early death is far too common. Too many children die within the first years of life. As Sunni Muslims, the survivors submit to the fatalistic attitude that God decrees each death.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the IMB and other agencies can introduce the author of life, Isa al Masih, while they serve the many physical needs of the Songhai people in West Africa. Pray for the Lord of the harvest to raise up more laborers to help reap His harvest among the Songhai people. Pray for miraculous healings among the Songhai people that will draw this Muslim people to their true savior.
