Isaiah 58:10
If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

Isaiah is talking about glorifying God through our care for those who are exploited by the world. When we take care of the needs of the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed, we are acting as His hands and feet. Thus people will praise His Name, and He will be glorified. That is why the workers we read about today are taking care of the poor. God tells us to do it!

Pray that our Gracious Father will teach us to sacrificially give on behalf of those who are desperately hungry both for bread and the Bread of Life.

Bajau (aka, Sea Gypsy) People

As we walked along the well-worn paths of the Bajau village, I was fascinated by the picturesque sights, but I sensed a dark, demonic undercurrent. I knew that if God called us to work with the Bajau, an absolute prerequisite would be a strong prayer team.

Later we began to establish our life in a rented home in the capital of the province. Our team sought to engage people in spiritual conversations. A team member, Yeti, struck up a conversation with a young mother who wandered dejectedly through our neighborhood. The mother explained that she needed work in order to pay for bus fare to return to her Bajau village. After Yeti invited her into our house, all of the women gathered around her, listened to her story, and shared the gospel with her. They then gave her some ironing to do to earn some money.

When my husband returned home, he met the young mother and heard what had happened. He sensed the Spirit’s leading to talk with her further. She received Jesus. She is one of only a couple of known believers among the Bajau.

Pray that the Bajau who typically are nomadic boat dwelling fishermen will be drawn to Jesus, the great fisher of men. Pray for the launch of strong church planting movements among the Bajau. Pray for faithful laborers and for the ramping up of intercessors to come alongside this effort.-LH
