One of the key ways that believers glorify God is by showing genuine compassion for the poor and the suffering. When disaster strikes, it’s Christ’s followers who are most likely to respond. We don’t do it to be “blessed,” but to bring glory to Christ’s Name. Is His Name being glorified by the money you send and the actions you take to help the suffering?
Pray that the Lord will show you how He wants you to respond to suffering, so that He will be glorified.
“Allah help us! Please help us!” Frightened, the Orang Pantai Timur mother cried out as she waited with her children to be rescued from the rising floodwaters of the Kelantan River. Eventually rescuers came in a motor boat to save the family from one of the worst floods in Malaysia’s history.
The 2,000,000 Orang Pantai Timur (meaning “people of the east coast”) consist of Malay people who live primarily in the two states of Terengganu and Kelantan. They have their own distinct accent, which identifies them as different from the other Malay people groups in Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore. Their fertile land is excellent for growing rice, vegetables, and fruit. Unfortunately, their crops are sometimes destroyed by severe floods during monsoons. The economy is enhanced through fishing, boat making, rubber, and the tobacco industry. A few younger people are seeking education and professional careers outside of their region. Orang Pantai Timur are devoted to their Islamic faith and adhere to all the Islamic laws, customs, and religious tenants. A point of distinction with other Malay peoples is that Orang Pantai Timur emphasize Hari Korban (sacrifice day). Animals sacrificed include goats, cows, water buffalo, and even imported camels. There are only a few known isolated believers living among them.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that devoted believers will befriend these people and explain God’s Word to them. Pray that they will come to know that Jesus was the perfect and final sacrifice given by God for their sins, and they can have eternal life through receiving Him.
