Proverbs 18:15
The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; and the ears of the wise seek it out.

Maldivians are noted for being closed to new spiritual ideas. Even people who come to them with different ideas about Islam often do not get a fair hearing. Very few Maldivians have been willing to embrace Christ. Perhaps it is because they live in a remote part of the world where they get little input from the outside world. Or perhaps Satan has blinded their eyes to the truth.

Pray for discerning people who will seek and find the Lord in the Maldive Islands. Pray that somehow the Word of God will penetrate this remote area of the world through radio or the Internet.

Maldivians in Singapore and Malaysia

by EJD

Sitting at the Mal International Airport, Ibrahim kept checking his travel documents. Growing up on a small farm on an isolated island far away from Mal, the capital of the Maldive Islands, this was his first experience away from the comfort and safety of home. His father had put away money to send him to Malaysia to study. On arriving in Malaysia, he would spend the first week at the home of a cousin’s friend. After settling down, he hoped to find a part time job. All his well-laid plans could be dashed if authorities found out that he did not have a return ticket and sufficient funds for his stay.

The Maldive Islands, located off the coast of southern India, are so small that many maps don’t include them. Maldivians speak one language, Divehi, and they have one religion, Islam. They are dedicated to what they consider to be true Islam, though it is blended with animistic beliefs. Tourism is one of the main industries in this beautiful tropical country. But few tourists have managed to share the gospel with the Maldivians. The Maldive Islands are a country that is closed to Christianity and no missionaries are allowed. But Maldivians who venture out of the country to places like India and Malaysia can hear the good news.
