What a reminder of the true nature of man! We are all sinners, and we all need a savior, no matter how “good” we may appear. God has provided one way out of this helpless dilemma. The only Savior, Jesus Christ, paid for every sin. How all the Azeris need to hear of His salvation!
Pray that believers in Moscow will use this Easter season to tell the unreached people in their city of the Savior born to take away the sins of the world. Pray that the unreached peoples will accept that they have sinned, and that only Jesus can reconcile them to the Father.
“And so we arrive,” the professor said to his university students, after the last of them ascended the escalator from the metro. “We are on Khachaturyan Street in Otradnoye [a Moscow suburb],” he continued. “Notice what’s here-a McDonalds! And there’s the Golden Babylon Shopping Center. Further down the street is something unusual for this Russian capital.” He led them down the street. Upon entering a red brick building the professor continued, “There are two mosques here; the Yadryam Mosque, and an Azeri mosque financed by an Azerbaijani president.” “How many Azerbaijanis are in Moscow?” one student asked. “No one knows exactly,” the professor answered. “Rough estimates suggest one and a half million; it may be as many as two million. Many Muslims come here from the North Caucasus region, some from the South Caucasus and Central Asia. There are over 7,000 mosques throughout Russia, and just five in Moscow.”
It was Thursday when the students visited the mosque. The building was empty except for a cleaning lady. She told them that on Fridays, all kinds of people fill the mosque; Tatars, Russians, Dagestanis, Chechens, Tajiks, and Azerbaijanis. Then she added, “They are taught about how Islam offers the way to peace.” “Ugh,” a student groaned. He prayed in his heart as the lady continued to expound on the merits of Islam.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
