Some Judean Christians went to Antioch and taught the Gentile believers that they had to be circumcised in order to be acceptable to God. This upset Paul and Barnabas, who decided to go to Jerusalem to talk with the church leaders. James concluded the discussion at this meeting by quoting the prophets, affirming God’s intention to include the Gentiles in His redemption. The council concluded that circumcision was unnecessary. That decision was a watershed event in the history of the expansion of the Christian faith. It was clear at this point that the gospel could expand within each culture, unencumbered by Jewish traditions.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to give wisdom to missionaries and national church leaders who must carefully distinguish between biblical absolutes and cultural norms.
How does a world power influence key leaders from around the world? Often they use education. That is what the Soviet Union did starting about 50 years ago. They invited a number of young Arab men from the Middle East to Moscow to study. Many of them were from countries like Libya and Syria, both of which had Socialist leanings. The majority of them eventually returned to their countries of origin, but some remained in Moscow. Syrian Arabs are now caught in a civil war, and some are leaving the country. Moscow is one of the destinations for those who have connections in that city. Many of these Syrian Arabs have Muslim backgrounds, but some are Christians.
The Muslim Arabs in Moscow are a diverse group economically as well as religiously. A number of them are involved with the trade and economic affairs between Russia and the Arab countries. In addition, a high number of Arab Muslims are illegal immigrants living in Moscow where they work as cheap laborers in construction, driving buses, and cleaning courtyards.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will build strength in Russian and Arab believers and use them to reach Arab Muslims for His Kingdom. Pray for Arab Christians to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach out for Christ to their fellows Arabs.
