God commanded Israel to conquer all the peoples of Canaan and to assume possession of all the land. But the years were long and the battles hard, and Israel settled for less. Those nations left unconquered became their snare and eventually their conquerors. So today, when we reject or adulterate God’s commands, our sins become the snares that frustrate God’s blessings to us and through us. In particular, those peoples from whom we withhold the blessings of the gospel may become strong, bitter enemies of Jesus and His Church.
Pray that His Church in Nigeria will not grow weary in taking the good news to the nations. Pray for perseverance.
“Ahmad, tell me about your contact with the Bagimi.” A Christian missionary was eager to know more about this Fulbe group as he was preparing to visit one of their villages. The African evangelist replied, “Most Bagirmi Fulani (Fulbe) come from the Bagirmi region of Chad, as well as parts of the Central African Republic and Nigeria. They have lighter skin, thinner lips, and straighter hair than other African groups. They speak Bagirmi Fulfulde. They only travel during the dry season when grazing lands and water are scarce. The Bagirmi Fulbe have recently become more settled because they need to keep other farmers from encroaching on their land. They now often pay family members and laborers to tend their home vegetable gardens. While the young men leave home to herd, the women and children take care of the crops. They follow basic Islamic practices, but also are involved in spirit worship. Currently there are only eight known Bagirmi believers among the 45,000 folk Islamic Bagirmi of Chad.”Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God will open a way for Christ’s followers to befriend and witness to the Bagirmi, whether at home or while they travel. Pray also that they will hear the gospel on the radio and be open to asking questions about God’s Word. Pray that entire clans of Bagirmi will come to the Lord soon.
