As wise old Simeon took the little baby Jesus in his arms, he prophetically saw the impact this little life would have upon the world. Not only was He the glory of the people of Israel, but also the light for Gentile peoples. While the focus of Jesus’ earthly ministry was to be on the Jews of Palestine, the Bible records how often Jesus also ministered to non-Jews. The Spirit He would send at Pentecost would be the power for His Church’s rapid expansion into the Gentile world.
Pray that the Father will reveal the Light of Life to the unreached Berber peoples. Pray that He will shine brightly in our lives, and send many from among us to them as a witness of that Light.
The elderly Rif Berber woman’s headscarf kept slipping from her head as she rocked back and forth reading the Qur’an. She is among the very few women in her village who can read. Growing up in a household of boys, she was treated unlike other daughters raised in the mountains of northern Algeria. Her doting father had allowed her to learn how to read from her brothers who were educated in the local Islamic school.
After getting married, she had many financial cares. In spite of toiling from dawn to dusk, her husband was only able to bring home a meager crop. Notwithstanding her every striving, all but one of her children perished on account of the dire poverty and harsh unforgiving conditions.
Much like other young men, her only surviving son, unable to eke out even a modest living in this rural mountains he had grown up in, had set out to seek out “greener pastures” in Europe. No amount of pleading from her would sway him.
No one who had known her as a young woman would be able to recognize the rocking figure in the window. All she now does is read the Qur’an and pray for the safety and protection of her son.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that God would raise up messengers of hope for the Rif Berber people. Pray that this deprived and dejected people will turn as a group to One who blesses all mankind.
