Here John applies Old Testament prophecy to Jesus. In Isaiah 42:6 we read, “I will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles.” Isaiah 60:1-2 declares, Arise, shine, for your light has come…. darkness shall cover the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you…. the nations shall come to your light. The incarnation of Jesus was a burst of light that continues to radiate to the nations today.
Pray that we will stand on the truth of these prophecies for the sake of those peoples who still live in deep spiritual darkness.
“Faria, it’s a boy!” The new mother cradled her first son with pride. Soon she would bear the tattoo on her forehead that told the world she had produced a son; a matter of great importance to this male-dominated society. After four girls Faria had bowed her head in shame at each birth, but this was a time of great pride and celebration. The long-awaited son had finally arrived!
The three and one-half million Kabyle Berbers in northern Algeria have long fought a political war over their language. The ruling Islamists finally made Arabic the language by law and the Kabyle people still resist the edict with protests and a school boycott.
The Kabyle people were mainly coerced into accepting Islam hundreds of years ago, and they are still not enthusiastic participants. Some who have migrated to Europe have accepted Christ, and many enjoy Christian radio broadcasts. They seem to be searching for something better than Islam.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Kabyle people will be visited with a revelation of the long awaited Son, Jesus Christ. Pray that the Kabyle people will put their identity in Jesus Christ, not their ethnicity. Pray that the JESUS Film, the translated New Testament, and the Christian broadcasts that are available to them will be quickened to their hearts through the Holy Spirit. Pray that followers of Christ among them will be strengthened and protected as they share Him with other Kabyles.
