Have you ever reflected on this mysterious admonition? What does Peter mean when he says we should speed (or hasten) that day? Is Peter possibly referring to Jesus’ statement that this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations before the end will come (Matthew 24:14)? If so, then consider the glorious possibility: by committing our lives to bringing the gospel to those people groups still without a believing fellowship in their midst, we are helping to speed the return of Jesus Christ.
Pray that the Lord will give strength to our hands as we seek to hasten the day of His appearing.
This past August 18 over a billion Muslims concluded the fast of Ramadan. In the hills of northwestern Afghanistan, a Timuri Aimaq family eagerly prepared for Eid ul-Fitr, the feast that ends their 30-day fast. As sunset neared, children walked from home to home where the adults gave them cookies. Some gave them money and gifts. Adults also visited families and friends. (Wikipedia.org)
As the sun faded, the family gathered in a field to pray the three prayers that begin the Eid ul-Fitr. Then they sat down to a meal including lamb, rice with mutton, a stew of meat and lentils, and more. The family sat on their beautiful Afghan carpet, woven by members of their own Timuri people group. The Timuris of northwestern Afghanistan are world-famous for the intricate designs of their carpets.
While they follow the rituals of the Muslim calendar, few Timuri people understand the beliefs of their religion. Those who live in the city may seem more observant than their rural cousins. But all of them hold an underlying allegiance to spirit worship and non-Islamic practices. Few, if any, can be counted as followers of Christ.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the message of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world will penetrate the mountain homes of the Timuris. Pray that the Holy Spirit will raise up messengers to reach the Timuri. Pray for the day when the Timuri people will join in the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
