Daily Topic for October 20, 2012
There are not many believers among Bengali peoples. But our God reigns and is to be praised from the rising of the sun to its setting (Psalm 113:3). Today’s Scripture reminds us that He is in the work of changing lives and circumstances. Those who pray for the Bengalis are asking for a great harvest among them in every part of the world.
Pray that many Tanti souls will be saved, and that other Bengali peoples will become followers of Jesus. Pray that those who are working among them will remember His promises and stay focused on Christ.
After having swept and mopped the floors, Mala began to wash clothes, wringing her mistresses’ cotton sari before she hung it on the clothesline. Her mind wandered to the profession her ancestors, the Tanti people, were involved in before modern industrialization robbed them of the dignity of weaving. Many like herself are forced to seek employment as servants in homes of people in the big cities neighboring their villages.
Squatting on the floor of the cemented backyard of a palatial house in Bhuvaneshwar, India, Radha scrubbed pans with soap, rinsed them and dunked them in another bucket filled with clean water and set them out in the scorching summer sun to dry. Plunging the pot into the pail of clean water, she couldn’t help but think about the murky water that she had collected from the village well early that very morning for her family. By evening the silt would have settled to the bottom of the earthen vessel, and she would be able to use it. While her children were forced to drink the water that the doctor said caused their frequent illnesses, the wealthy household where she worked had a relatively clean and chlorine treated supply of water for their household needs.Learn more at joshuaproject.net
Pray that the Tanti people of India will soon have clean drinking water. Pray that they may find Christ Jesus, the giver of living water.
