James 3:17-18a
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

What a different kind of wisdom than the world offers! Any one of these descriptions of what comes from God’s wisdom could potentially transform the individual and the entire community.

Pray that the Hindu peoples of the Telugu speaking communities will seek and find God’s wisdom. Pray that this wisdom will transform their communities for the glory of God.

Nai People

“But Papa,” cried a Nai youth in Delhi, India, “I don’t want to go! It’s going to hurt.” Trying to encourage his little daughter, her papa replied, “But he’s a good dentist and a friend.” Stopping in front of a shop, the girl pointed at the sign above the door, “See, he’s not a dentist. He’s a barber.” Taking hold of his daughter’s hand, her father said, “Come, let’s go inside and greet our friend.”

Of the four major caste groups of India, the Nai people are a sub-caste of Shudras, the lowest of these four groupings. They are found throughout India, but the largest numbers live in the northern states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Traditionally, they have been barbers who cut hair and nails. Such jobs put one at the bottom of Hindu society. But they also provide minor medical services like extracting teeth and setting sprains. They also perform duties connected with marriage, matchmaking, and celebrations. Yet, an occupational change is happening among them, as many Nai people throughout India are learning other trades and professions.

The Nais are Hindus, and they give prominence to their regional deities. They believe in evil spirits which they think cause trouble and disease. Community exorcists-cum-witch doctors are common among them.

Pray that the Nai people will find their peace in Jesus and be freed mentally from being second-class citizens due to their caste ranking. Pray that they will become citizens of heaven, their eternal home.-CN
